Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA): Part-Time

Easterseals Central Alabama, located in Montgomery, is hiring a part-time COTA to work in our pediatric OT program.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
Degree from ACOTE-accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program required. State of Alabama Occupational Therapy Assistant license required. Knowledge of Occupational Therapy procedures and methods, federal and state laws, and regulations required. Organizational, time management, and planning skills required. Excellent interpersonal skills are desired. Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, children, parents, and the community. Ability to lead and motivate, accomplish objectives, work independently, effectively and build relationships and work as a member of a team.
GENERAL OUTLINE:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant works under the supervision of the Director of Occupational Therapy and is responsible to the Executive Director for the efficient and ethical performance of duties.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Reviews laws, regulations, and guidelines of regulatory agencies and delivers care within legal, ethical, and best practice standards.
2. Review books, journal articles, proceedings, and reputable websites to maintain current evidence-based practice information on concepts, practices and approaches to occupational therapy interventions.
3. Present in-services for local agencies and staff as requested.
4. Review case history information with the person served/caregiver and supervising occupational therapist to determine the appropriate treatment.
5. Provide appropriate therapy based on the Plan of Treatment. Documents therapy session results in an electronic file. Updates Plan of Care quarterly or per progress report indication. Provides an oral report of progress to the person served/caregiver upon completion of the therapy session.
6. Prepare and forward a written progress report and/or discharge summary to the referral agency as indicated.
7. Maintains confidentiality of person-served records, treatments, and assessment results.
8. Contacts area Physicians, private schools, and other referral sources to provide information on services available and appropriate referral procedures.
9. Maintains state licensure by attending continuing education courses.
10. Maintains occupational license with appropriate governing agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· A Cleared/Clean Alabama Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant License
· Approximately 2 years of experience working exclusively with a pediatric population
· Participation in continuing education in pediatric therapy as required by the state Occupational Therapy governing authority
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Standing, repetitive movements, lifting weights of various amounts (not to exceed 50 lbs.), sitting on the floor, bending/squatting, and walking.
