Job Exploration Training (JET) Program Prepares Students with Disabilities for the Workforce

Each summer, Easterseals Central Alabama’s Employment Program works with around 40 rising high school juniors and seniors involved in Vocational Rehabilitation Services, through a series of job-prep workshops, known as Job Exploration Training (JET), to help them practice for the world of work.

For the first week, the students learn the soft skills required to get and keep a job.  These skills include: Dressing for success, hygiene, customer service, money management, conflict resolution, working as part of a team, and more. This is done in a game show-style format that makes learning and practicing these skills fun and easier to retain.

The second and third weeks of the program are spent doing internships at one of our partner locations!  Some of our partner locations have been Grandview Family YMCA, Tractor Supply, Priester’s Pecans, and Wright’s Produce!

Interested in being a partner site? We are always interested in connecting with local businesses to provide a trained and supported intern at no-cost to the business, who also wants to help local youth reach their goal of employment.  To learn more, contact one of our Employment Specialists at 334.288.0240 or email info@eastersealsca.org!
